Free beneficiary allocation calculator

Beneficiary Distribution Calculator

Allocate an entered residuary distribution pool by percentage, subtract prior or interim distributions, and estimate the remaining amount due to each beneficiary.

Reconcile the estate before distributing it.

Use the Estate Accounting & Reconciliation Calculator to confirm that estate inflows, outflows and ending assets balance before relying on a beneficiary allocation worksheet.

Need a term explained?

The Estate & Trust Glossary defines the accounting, beneficiary, trust, escrow, reserve and fiduciary terms used across these tools.

Estimate beneficiary distributions

Planning worksheet only. The governing will, trust, beneficiary designation, court order and applicable law control actual beneficiary rights and distributions.

Allocate the distributable pool

The calculator subtracts the reserve you want to retain from the entered amount available, then multiplies the resulting distributable pool by each beneficiary percentage. Prior distributions are subtracted from each target share to estimate the amount still remaining for that beneficiary.

Use prior distributions as a reconciliation check

Interim distributions can make a final schedule harder to review. Enter prior distributions for each beneficiary so the worksheet shows target shares, amounts already paid, remaining distributions and any entered over-distribution.

Frequently asked questions

What is the beneficiary distribution calculator for?

It estimates each beneficiary target share of a residuary distribution pool and subtracts prior or interim distributions to show the remaining amount for each beneficiary.

How is this different from the Estate Distribution Calculator?

The Estate Distribution Calculator estimates the estate residue after debts, expenses, taxes, fees, bequests and reserves. This calculator starts with a distributable amount and focuses on allocating that amount among beneficiaries while reconciling prior distributions.

What if beneficiary percentages do not total 100 percent?

The calculator displays the entered total and warns when the percentages do not equal 100 percent. Review the governing instrument and allocation instructions before making a distribution.

What if a beneficiary already received more than the calculated target share?

The calculator shows zero remaining due for that beneficiary and separately reports the amount by which prior distributions exceed the entered target share. It does not decide whether or how an over-distribution should be corrected.

Can this calculator determine who is legally entitled to inherit?

No. Beneficiary rights and shares are controlled by the governing instrument, beneficiary designations, probate or trust law, court orders and other applicable authority. The calculator only applies the percentages and amounts you enter.
